As a former public high school science teacher I’ve not only encountered students but other teachers, administrators, and district specialists that believe common myths about science and God.
What really surprised me was that my colleagues were brilliant people, yet in this area of thought they subscribed to reasoning that is faulty and with serious red flags - all in the name of science!
🤔 SHIFTING MY VIEW OF SCIENCE
I began to recognize that modern day science had gradually and intentionally been used to position itself against the belief in God. Popular Apologist Frank Turek states that “Science doesn’t say anything, scientists do.”
It’s important to remember that scientists have philosophical beliefs that often pre-determine what they consider as a possible conclusion to the results they examine.
As a Christian who was having transformative encounters with Jesus while beginning my teaching career, I began to have revelations about who God is and how He thinks. I started to see Him in every part of my life, including science.
🙌 CREATING A SOLUTION FOR HOMESCHOOL FAMILIES AND SCHOOLS
It was from this heart posture that I decided to investigate more and eventually God inspired me to write Biology: Designed by God - a textbook course created to reconnect college prep science with the heart of God, in an easy to understand way.
Below are five of the most common myths that the general population, even Christians, have about science and God.

Faith in God and Science Have Nothing to Do with Each Other - ❌ FALSE!
Without any doubt, absolutely and definitely - YES! Science is a discovery of our natural created world and it’s led to the understanding of gravity, laws of motion, orbital mathematics, cures against diseases, and so much more.
“For in him was created the universe of things, both in the heavenly realm and on the earth, all that is seen and all that is unseen. Every seat of power, realm of government, principality, and authority—it all exists through him and for his purpose!”

Using science to discover earthly secrets is an amazing benefit but if that’s all it’s for, we’ve missed the true connection - God’s Heavenly secrets. It all exists because of God and FOR Him. When we don’t complete the connection to God we begin to view science itself as the Savior, and we exalt it as though it’s the true source of knowledge. Let’s bless and celebrate science, but it’s not God.
There is an Intelligent Designer who set the laws of motion in place, created the atoms within our universe, and fashioned the complex systems of life. We know Him as Yeshua, the God of the Bible.

Life on Earth is the Result of Natural Random Processes - ❌ FALSE!
One of the most controversial units we taught in public school was the Theory of Evolution. Students were naturally confused and it led to consistently having the lowest exam scores throughout our school district of 22 high schools.
The main concept of evolution is that life began and evolved by random, natural processes rather than the design of an Intelligent Creator.
They propose that life began by random lightning strikes continually occurring in the ocean and causing non-living gasses to eventually produce a living organism. This indeed is science-fiction and belongs in the movie Back to the Future.
In our Biology: Designed by God textbook course I spend an entire chapter reviewing, dissecting, and presenting the argument between Evolution and Intelligent Design Theory - so for the sake of this brief blog entry I will affirm that the strongest scientific conclusion for the origin of life is an Intelligent Designer.
I won’t spend time splitting hairs over a literal seven-day creation account or other theories. My sticking point is that God is the author of life, it’s not random but rather intentional, and you were created on purpose.

God Has No Interest in Science - ❌ FALSE!
“God delights in concealing things; scientists delight in discovering things.”
Proverbs 25:2 MSG
Speaking in conjunction with the previous scriptures I’ve shared, you should be able to easily discern this myth is false. God wants His children to steward the earth and that involves discovering the secrets God has hidden within creation for us to find.
God is not mean to hide things because like Easter egg hunting, what is hidden is meant to be found. We have the privilege of “treasure hunting” with God. He is absolutely interested in us discovering aspects of Creation that would solve world hunger, eradicate sickness from our planet, and find solutions for our most pressing issues.
We live in a world that is in the process of being restored, redeemed, and reconciled back to Christ.
“And by the blood of his cross, everything in heaven and earth is brought back to himself—back to its original intent, restored to innocence again!”

The Details of Creation are Insignificant and Random - ❌ FALSE!
Have you ever wondered why certain aspects of creation are designed the way they are? For instance, why is blood the lifesource of every creature? Why is a baby born in darkness, not seen by anyone for nine months and then comes out? Why do children resemble their parents? Why do seeds have to die in the ground first and then grow outwardly? Why do we have a brain and an immune system?
My aim here is to get you thinking, eventually realizing that certain “small details” that we don’t really question are actually designed that way ON PURPOSE! They tell a story, paint a picture, and communicate a message about God, His ways, and His plan to redeem all of creation.
You begin to realize that God could have created us anyway He wanted. We didn’t have to have blood in our body. However, we see that it’s the blood of Jesus that is our life source back into union with God.
We also begin to see that the most important things often happen unseen to the naked eye - from cells, babies, and seeds beginning to grow.

Science Disproves God - ❌ FALSE!
Modern day scientists and the public school curriculum would like you to think this way but it’s simply not true! This is a philosophical belief that is disguised as a scientific conclusion, dressed up with pretty statistics and arguments.
However, when you truly begin to investigate you see that the closer you study science the more you begin to see God.

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN?
If science was created by God…
If creation is full of His fingerprints…
If discovery is meant to lead us closer to Him…
Then the way we teach science matters. Deeply.
Our children are being shaped either to:

See God in everything OR

Believe the world is random, godless, and purposeless.
There is no neutral ground in education.
Science is either taught as worship… or as separation.
As parents and educators, we have the responsibility and the privilege of showing students how to see God through what they study - not just in Bible class, but in biology, chemistry, astronomy, physics, nature, and everyday observation.
When students learn science through a relational, God-centered lens, something changes:

Wonder returns.

Worship becomes natural.

Identity becomes rooted.

Learning becomes joyful again.
