We live in a society where 66% of Christian children walk away from their faith after they leave the home.
Not just that:
-
Since 2007 the percentage of Americans identifying as Christian has dropped from 78% to 62%.
-
40% of parents send their children to a religious school or education.
-
26% of parents raising children attend Church on a weekly basis (9% attend 1-2x/month).
-
22% of US adults were raised Christian but have walked away from their faith.
-
For every 1 person that converts to Christianity, 6 leave.
These are highly alarming statistics that reveal the reality of Christ is not resonating with people in a way that is deeply personal.
Eye-Witness Testimony From a Former Public High School Teacher
Personally I can testify that I’ve experienced great “Church hurt” and had not my relationship with God been as strong as it was, I may have walked away from the Church. Possibly even religion and belief altogether.
Yet, I knew God was real because of the personal encounters I had with Him.
This allowed me to separate the failures of others and God, who never fails. He is real to me and I continue to spend time with Him on a regular basis.
As a former public high school science teacher who led after-school Bible studies and taught over 1,000 students in my teaching career I can confidently tell you that most students don’t grow up with a personal relationship with Christ. They grow up with the idea of Jesus and a set of rules - but it isn’t real to them. The reality of Jesus crucified and resurrected hasn’t yet affected how they think, talk, and behave.
I’ve seen a lot of well meaning Christian parents who:
-
Pray with their children
-
Take them to church
-
Tell them that Jesus loves them…
But I’ve watched their children live like the devil as they cursed, entertained music and movies inappropriate for them, confessed to drugs, alcohol, and sex. All while wearing a necklace with a cross on it.
The Battle for Science - Atheists vs Christians
I realize that the tone right now may be a bit uncomfortable and possibly even convicting but it’s important we address these topics - because you are here reading this article presumably out of a desire to see your child grow strong in their faith. This is exactly what I want for you as well!
Science has been captured by a community of atheist scientists who are attempting to turn it into a weapon against faith in God. The popular evolutionary scientist Richard Dawkins is quoted in his book The God Delusion saying,
“Faith can be very very dangerous, and deliberately to implant it into the vulnerable mind of an innocent child is a grievous wrong.”
It’s more important than ever for you to choose a science curriculum that not only teaches academically rigorous science but one that also strikes back against the attack on God.
A Biblically Immersive and Academically Rigorous Christian Science Solution
It’s not enough anymore for our children to hear the cliche Christian lines about God, learn all the old stories, and just expect to carry on.
They need:
-
To be Biblically immersed into the heart of God’s truth concerning science and creation.
-
To be face to face with the scriptures themselves, asking the hard questions at home.
-
To be positioned to encounter God for themselves personally.
-
Opportunities to ask difficult questions and a safe space to think through different perspectives.
Like myself - the only way I made it through those difficult and disappointing moments in my faith was to lean back on those personal encounters that I’ve had with God and trust Him.
The God of Abraham had to become real to Isaac, and after that had to become real to Jacob. The sons could not ride off the faith of their father forever. Who Abraham knew had to become real to Isaac.
The Good News is that God has made Himself known through Jesus and He wants to have a personal relationship with all of us, including our children and grandchildren!
Providing Solutions for Christian Homeschool Families & Schools
One of the biggest reasons I took the massive step to create Biology: Designed by God is because when I looked in other companies textbook’s I didn’t see God. It felt like a science textbook with a Christian sticker slapped on. That won’t cut it anymore if we want our children to truly grow up strong in their faith.
Read this excerpt from Chapter 7 (ATP):
“Just like all your cells require biological energy to perform their roles, in God’s Body His will is that all believers depend upon His power in order to do what they are called to do. It’s absolutely significant that you realize God’s will is for ALL believers to carry His power, not just a few. Too often we believe that God’s power is only reserved for the pastors on stage, those with a gift, or for “super christians” and that’s not true. If you are part of the Body then power is available for you to receive, and necessary for you to be effective. How could the legs move if the cells didn’t have biological power to work together? How could muscles heal themselves after an intense workout if power wasn’t present to do so? Jesus lived by God’s power and we are now joined with the Body of Christ. This is a Body of power!”
If you want your child to grow up with a faith that is strong, personal, and unshakable, not just borrowed or memorized, then the way we teach science matters more than ever.
