For most of human history science has always been connected with understanding God in greater ways. Every discovery was a peek inside the treasure chest of knowing God. 

Somehow only in the last century has there been an attack on that reality, challenging God’s role in science. I spent over seven years teaching public high school science and in that time I’ve had the joy of discovering God within my lessons. 

A Science Teacher Encounters Jesus and Never Sees Science the Same Again

As I continued encountering Jesus He began showing me more and more about His ways. Eventually an idea to write a Christian Biology textbook was deposited into my heart. I started to dream about what God would do with a Science curriculum that was about Him.

I’m excited to say that this textbook has been completed and available for homeschool families and schools alike! Biology: Designed By God carries deep revelation of Jesus through an academically rigorous Biology curriculum. 

So, here are five ways science reveals the glory of God - taken directly from Biology: Designed By God

1. The Life is Found in the Blood

Blood was never meant just for special parts of the body, instead all parts must function! (AHA, 2021) Many people think that only pastors and other spiritual leaders have special powers, but the truth is that every believer in the Body of Christ has access to the power of the Blood of Jesus.

My heart for you is that you’ll realize God’s power is available for you as well. This is the fuel to our life in God! 

One of the less known facts about blood is that it doesn’t just carry nutrients to nourish us but it actually removes waste (Mayo Clinic, 2023). It cleanses us! You can’t receive the blood of Jesus and not experience a cleansing, a nourishing, a life-giving power.

If you haven’t experienced this don’t be discouraged but instead ask God to give you a fresh taste of His blood. This is the foundation of our walk with Christ.

Every believer, regardless of age or status in life, has access to the power of the blood of Jesus. It’s designed to flow to all parts of the body.

2. A Story Written About You

DNA replication is called a semiconservative process because the original “parent” DNA produces two copies, each of which is joined together with one strand from the original DNA and one strand copied to complement it (Meselson & Stahl, 1958).

See, God didn’t create an entirely new DNA with two new strands. Instead, He found a way to make a copy of the DNA where half of it is the original.

Take a moment and consider how God brought His Son Jesus into earth. He used Mary, a human, for one half of the process, but God Himself provided the other half.

When Jesus was born, He carried God’s “DNA” joined together with human DNA. Look at the scripture:

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. His mother, Mary, had promised Joseph to be his wife, but while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.

3. The Generosity of Enzymes

Just like the presence of enzymes can lower the cost for life-giving reactions to occur, so does the presence of Jesus Christ.

You see, without Jesus Christ, the price to be saved and righteous before God was incredibly and impossibly high. We could not ever achieve this on our own.

It’s only by joining ourselves to Jesus that we experience eternal life! In the same way, enzymes have lowered the energy price it takes for our body to continue functioning.

We experience physical life because of enzymes that are continually at work within us. Jesus is God’s enzyme! He did what we could never do! He made possible what once was impossible!

4. The Unseen Realm of Life

Have you ever considered that there is more to this world than what you can see, feel, hear, taste, or smell? Specifically that there is an unseen supernatural realm that is connected with what goes on in our visible natural world?

I know this may sound a bit mystical but the Bible paints a clear picture that this is a true reality! I mean, just stop at the foundation of your faith. You believe that God physically impregnated a woman through His Spirit, that Jesus is fully Man and fully God at the same time, and that He not only rose from the grave but He currently is alive in Heaven today. That’s pretty mystical stuff already! Yet we know it’s all true. 

Compare this with the fact that over and over again in our created world we see the design of life and extremely important processes that occur in places you cannot see. 

• Seeds are planted underground and they first germinate in the unseen place before expanding outwardly. 
• Babies are first alive in the womb, growing for nine months until they move into the world we can see. 
• Parents pass on genes to their children that may be hidden within the parent but gets expressed in their children. 

Time and time we are shown a clear picture of life existing in an unseen realm.

God wants us to understand that there are realities we cannot see but are intimately connected with what we experience. 

5. Fine-Tuned On Purpose

Scientists have observed tons of highly unlikely, statistically mind-blowing facts about how our universe and planet are set up that it no longer seems random but rather done on purpose. We believe this is strong evidence for an intelligent force behind our universe. As a Christian, this is explained by the reality of God. I’ll give you some examples of fine-tuning.

• The force of gravity in the universe is so precise that if it were slightly different, stars, planets, and galaxies could not form (Barnes, 2012) and life would not be possible

• We have a perfect-sized moon, just the right distance from us, keeping our planet's rotational axis constant

• The gravitational pull of our moon leads to the only climate in the solar system that is able to sustain life for complex organisms

• If Earth was 5% closer, our temperatures would increase to 900 degrees Fahrenheit!

All of this points to an intentional Creator who designed life with purpose, order, beauty, and meaning.

Practical Solution for Christian Homeschool Families & Educators

We don’t have to choose between faith and science. The world needs believers who can speak truth in classrooms, boardrooms, and research labs.
